Digital Marketing for
Local Shops and Retail

Somebody two streets away is looking for what is sitting on your shelf right now. They will check whether you are open, whether you have it, and how far it is, and they will do all of that before deciding whether to leave the house.

Your reality

How people decide which shop to walk into.

Local retail is decided in a few minutes on a phone, usually by somebody who is already nearby and already intending to buy.

01

Your Google profile is your storefront

For a local shop it is seen far more often than the website, and it is where the decision happens: how far, open or closed, what it looks like inside, what people said. Correct hours including holidays, the right categories, photographs taken this year and reviews answered will do more for your foot traffic than anything else on this page.

02

The question is almost always whether you have it

People avoid wasted trips more than they chase low prices. A message asking whether a size, a brand or a medicine is in stock is somebody deciding whether to come to you or order it instead, and the answer decides the sale within minutes. Shops that reply quickly to that one question win a surprising share of their day.

03

Your stock changes weekly and your online presence does not

New arrivals, a restock, a line you no longer carry. Regular customers who follow you know these things and everybody else assumes the shop is the same as it was two years ago. This is the cheapest content in retail, because you are photographing things you already bought, and it is the reason social sits high on the list for you.

04

You are competing with a delivery app, not just the shop down the road

Somebody choosing between visiting you and ordering online is weighing convenience against having it now and being able to see it first. Those two advantages are real and they are yours, but only if the person knows you are open, close and holding it. That is the whole argument, and it is won on a phone before anybody walks anywhere.

What goes wrong

The four mistakes we see most in local retail.

Three of these are free to fix. The fourth is money spent on the wrong thing entirely.

01

Hours that are wrong

The most damaging small error in this industry. Somebody drives to a shop listed as open and finds it closed, and that is a customer lost permanently and often a review written in anger. Holidays are where it happens most, because almost nobody updates them. Getting this right costs nothing and protects everything else.

02

No photographs of the actual shop

A logo, a stock image, or three pictures taken the year the business opened. People want to see what it looks like inside, what the shelves hold and whether it seems like their kind of place. Current photographs of your real interior and your real stock are the difference between a listing and a shop somebody can picture walking into.

03

Messages nobody is watching

The question is time sensitive by nature. Somebody asking whether you have something in stock is deciding right now, and an answer tomorrow is an answer to nobody. One person with the phone during opening hours, and a saved reply for the questions that repeat, is worth more than most campaigns.

04

Buying an online store nobody asked for

Plenty of local shops have been sold a full e-commerce build with payments and shipping, and it now sits unused while the actual orders arrive by message. Sometimes selling online is right. Often what was needed was hours, location, a page showing what you carry and a way to ask a question. We will tell you which one you are before you spend.

What we would start with

For a local shop, in this order.

This is the shortest list on the site, and that is deliberate. Local retail rewards doing two things properly far more than doing five things partially.

1 · SEO local

The Google Business Profile treated as the storefront it is: hours that are right including holidays, correct categories, current photographs, questions answered and reviews replied to. Then pages for the categories you actually want to be found for in your neighbourhood. For most shops this alone changes the number of people walking in.

How we do SEO →

2 · Redes Sociales

Higher here than for most industries, because your stock is the content and it changes every week. New arrivals, restocks and what is in the window, published consistently to the people who live near you. We report reach, saves, profile visits and messages, since messages are what turn into visits in your business.

How we run social →

3 · Diseño Web

Usually smaller than you expect. Hours, location, what you carry, a way to ask a question, and speed on a phone. If selling online genuinely fits your products and your margins we will build that, and if it does not we would rather you kept the money. Look at the fourth mistake above before anybody quotes you for a store.

How we build sites →

4 · Google Ads y Facebook Ads

Retail margins on a single item are thin, so paid rarely pays for itself on everyday stock for one location. Where it does work is an opening, a seasonal peak or a high value category, run tightly around your neighbourhood for a defined period. For most shops we would spend that budget on the first two instead.

Worth moving on early

AEO · being the answer when somebody asks

People now ask an assistant the questions they used to type: where can I buy this near here, which pharmacy is open at this hour, is there a shop nearby that carries that brand. The reply names two or three places, and that is a decision made before any list of results appeared.

What makes you the named shop is the same information that makes your profile work: accurate hours, clear categories, real descriptions of what you sell and reviews that exist. Local retail is one of the easiest industries to be citable in, because so few shops have any of it in order.

What changes

What working looks like for you.

These are the things we report on, because they are the things we control. We do not promise footfall or sales figures, and you should be wary of anybody who does.

01

You show up in the map results near you

Position in the local pack for your categories, measured from the areas your customers actually come from rather than from the shop door, which flatters everybody. That is the number that governs how often you are seen at all.

02

Profile activity is counted

Direction requests, calls, website taps and messages from the profile. Direction requests are the closest thing local retail has to a measurable intention to visit, and most shop owners have never seen the number.

03

People nearby see what you have now

Reach, saves and messages on what you publish, from an audience in your area rather than a follower count from anywhere. A save on a new arrival is somebody planning to come in for it.

04

Reviews arrive steadily instead of only after a problem

A simple habit of asking at the counter, and every review answered. Left alone, the only people motivated enough to write are the unhappy ones, which is how a good shop ends up with a mediocre rating.

Where we deliver

Local retail, in your market.

A shop in Panama City competes with a mall culture and serves a customer base that switches between Spanish and English without warning. A shop in Medellín sits in a city where neighbourhood commerce is genuinely strong and where people are loyal to the businesses on their own street. The categories, the language and the map radius all change with the market.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do we need an online store?▾
Often not, and we would rather say that than sell you one. If your products travel badly, your margins are thin or your customers are all within a few kilometres, a fast page with hours, location, what you carry and a way to message you will earn more than a checkout. If you have products worth shipping and demand from outside your area, that is a different conversation and we will have it honestly.
Our stock changes constantly. How can anything stay current?▾
By not trying to publish the whole catalogue. The site holds what is permanent, the categories and brands you always carry, and social carries what changes: new arrivals, restocks, what is in the window this week. That split means nothing goes stale and nobody on your team is maintaining an inventory feed they do not have time for.
We are a pharmacy. Are there restrictions we should know about?▾
Yes, and they differ by country. Certain products cannot be advertised at all on the major platforms, some require certification, and health claims are regulated regardless of where they appear. Everything else about a pharmacy is ordinary local retail: hours, location, stock and reviews. We build campaigns to comply rather than to see what gets approved, and where something is uncertain we will ask you to confirm it with your regulator first.
How do we compete with delivery apps and the big chains?▾
By being visibly open, close and holding the thing. A chain cannot tell somebody that the item is on the shelf right now and answer a message in four minutes, and a delivery app cannot let anybody see the product before buying. Those advantages are real, but they only count if the person knows about them before deciding, which is exactly what the profile and the messaging are for.
We have more than one branch. How does that work?▾
Each location needs its own profile with its own hours, photographs and reviews, because people search from where they are standing. On the site each branch gets a page with its own address and details. Running several locations from one shared listing is a common mistake and it caps how often any of them appear.
Do reviews really matter for a small shop?▾
They do, and the count matters as much as the score. A shop with nine reviews looks uncertain next to one with two hundred even at the same rating. The practical problem is that unhappy customers write without prompting and happy ones do not, so a simple habit of asking at the counter changes the picture within a couple of months.
How long before I see results?▾
Local retail is the fastest industry on this site. A properly configured profile with correct hours and current photographs can change how often you appear within weeks, sometimes sooner. Social builds over a couple of months of consistent posting. Search rankings for your categories take weeks to months, though local competition is usually thinner than owners expect.
Who would I actually be working with?▾
Aylin Benítez, directly, from the first conversation through to the monthly reviews. She responds personally in 2 business days or less and works in Spanish or English. Delivery is handled by the specialist teams behind Media Saga, so you are not passed to a junior once the contract is signed.

Aylin spent her career in marketing and in enterprise marketing software sales, working with major brands and companies throughout Latin America. She has sat across the table from marketing directors defending a budget and reporting results upward, which means she already knows what a plan has to look like before anyone can say yes to it.

That is why a first conversation with her feels closer to a diagnosis than a pitch. She will want to know what you sell, where your customers come from, and what you have already tried. Then she will tell you which of the five services would change things fastest, including when the answer is that you do not need all of them, which for a local shop is frequently the case.

She works in Spanish or English, whichever you prefer, and inside your business hours. She handles your account herself from that first message through to the monthly reviews, so nobody hands you to a junior once the contract is signed.
